Production Specialist

We are currently looking to recruit a Production Specialists for our plant in Portlaoise, County Laois on 3 month fixed term contract.

 

Role Purpose:   To safely operate and optimise the efficiency of automated control process and equipment to produce and pack mozzarella cheese that meets Company and Customer specification

 

Key Responsibilities Include;

 

Health & Safety

  • Understand, observe and ensure compliance with Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Participate in and ensure that safety work place inspections are carried out in accordance with schedule and standards.
  • Attend Health and Safety meetings.
  • Support and promote the development of an effective and pro-active safety culture on site.
  • Ensure all operations within the Production function are carried out to meet the requirements of relevant Health and Safety legislation.

 

Environmental

  • Ensure that accidental discharges to drain are immediately reported, spillage investigation reports are completed and remedial action is speedily implemented. 
  • Understand the Environmental targets and objectives for the department and be proactive in influencing these in a positive manner.
  • Separate and dispose of waste in accordance with recycling requirements

 

Operations

  • To safely operate automated controlled process and packing equipment in accordance with documented PSOPs understanding both the cheese science and process operation 
  • To effectively clean all equipment using a combination of automated CIP processes and manual cleaning and sanitisation methods
  • Perform the pre-start and quality checks identified by both health and safety and asset care / maintenance issues in order to support the engineering team
  • Perform appropriate on-line quality checks including testing on in-line testing equipment 
  • Monitor all process controls points on a continuous basis taking appropriate action as necessary to optimise and maintain product specification whilst maximising line efficiencies and minimising waste.
  • Accurately recording usage, quality and efficiency data to accurately track plant performance vs targets and budget and deliver planned production at the required quality. 
  • Ensure timely and accurate records are maintained and that all operational checks are carried out and documented
  • Support the maintenance team to deliver best practice asset care through correct operation of process equipment and early escalation and resolution of potential issues. 
  • Escalate any process or quality issue that cannot be adequately addressed by changes within normal operating parameters
  • Actively support problem solving, post failure analysis and continuous improvement initiatives in safety, quality, operational efficiency and product improvement.
  • Inform maintenance of potential and actual mechanical problems and follow through to completion to avoid and minimise downtime

 

Communication

  • Contribute to effective team handover by relaying all information relevant to the day’s activity to the next shift
  • Actively participate in daily team meetings to support effective communication across the site
  • Maintain communication with QA staff and the Shift Manager regarding testing requirements and standards.
  • Understand upstream and downstream processes to ensure timely and effective communication on any implications that may affect quality, safety or operations efficiency
  • Ensure that maintenance staff are informed immediately of any breakdowns and contribute to high speed diagnosis and repair of faults by ensuring full and complete information is relayed to them
  • Health, Safety & Hygiene
  • Proactively support the on-going development of safety through effective leading KPIs
  • Progressively make the work environment safer through compliance with Risk assessments and contributing to hazard registers and elimination of hazards in the workplace.
  • Supporting and adhering to PSOPs which promotes safe working practises and carry out any work in accordance with the training and instruction provided, and to inform the Shift Manager of any health and safety problems.
  • Ensure that all correct PPE is worn at all times 
  • Report accidents and incident promptly and support thorough investigation to ensure that root causes are identified and eliminated through preventative measures
  • Ensure all safety devices are in place and functioning properly and where any non-conformances occur, ensure these are reported immediately to the production supervisor
  • Observe, act and immediately report any issues that may pose a threat to a safe working environment
  • Participate in appropriate H&S forums 
  • Be part of the development of PSOP’s

 

Other Responsibilities

  • Ensure the role is performed with due regard for the requirements of the Company Equal Opportunities Policy and the Bullying and Harassment Policy.
  • Actively participate in 5 why investigations to allow root cause analysis to be performed and corrective actions to be implemented and recorded on appropriate decision trees and PSOP’s 
  • Participate in the training of others 
  • Any other reasonable task required in line with business need and / or requested by any member of Line Management 
  • Technological developments and changes to customer specifications mean that processes and their associated tasks and functions do not remain static. In order to remain flexible, responsive and competitive, the Company reserves the right to adapt roles and responsibilities in response to operational changes and there is a reasonable expectation of adaptation to new or modified working methods as required.

Knowledge & Experience 

Previous experience in a manufacturing environment. Dairy background 24 hour 7-day manufacturing operation is desirable. 

Ability to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the application of safe working practices in the manufacturing environment.
